- <p>The multi-purpose electric winch has its reduction gear and dog clutch totally enclosed in a protective housing and controlled from the outside. The gear train comprises two worms (3, 2) meshing with hollowed-out worm wheels, the two pairs of worms and wheels being in series. The drive shaft, keyed to the male half of the dog clutch, is driven by a worm wheels (5) incorporating the female half, when the halves are engaged. An external control may be provided, sliding the male half into engagement with the worm wheel, which turns freely on the winch shaft.</p>
