The yarn brake for a textile machine, esp. flatbed knitter, has a yarn holder on the mounting bolt for the assembly. This has a passage running through it, across the axis of the mounting bolt, for the yarn to pass through. Pref. yarn holder has a foot section for connection to the mounting bolt, with an outwards ranging section as a guide to contain the passage for the yarn. This section only partially covers the passage, to give a slit opening at one side for the yarn to be threaded through over its curved projection defining the slit. The other side of the foot section, defining the slit, is beaded ranging over the end of the lower projection, or it is a projection with twin fork-shaped ends between the ends of the lower projection. An insertion channel for the yarn is formed between the rear of the lower projection and one of the two brake plates. The passage is rounded in the direction of yarn travel. The yarn holder is in the form of a clip bent from plate, with the ends bent forwards and back to give the passage, and the slit to thread the yarn, and the holder is keyed to the mounting bolt. A drilling, with a rectangular cross section, is in the foot section of the yarn holder, to sit on a matching section of the mounting bolt. An acoustic insulation cladding is on the outer sides of the brake plates, near their circular ring flange zones which offer a flat and an outwards-curved section which are both polished.
