- The invention relates to a device for determining the lay angle of the stranded elements of a stranded layer of a cable, having an appliance for measuring the axial rate at which the stranded layer passes through. More accurate determination of the lay angle is made possible by the stranded layer being guided by a sensor ring (7) which is fixed in the axial direction, can rotate about the axis on which the cable passes through and has at least one pick-off element (9) which engages in a gap space between adjacent stranded elements, and by an appliance (12) being provided which uses the data from the axial rate at which the stranded layer passes through and the angular velocity of the sensor ring (7) to determine the lay angle. <IMAGE>
