摘要：: PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for determining a call answer is provided to easily determines the call answer by composing a switch and a tone generator to be manually activated and deactivated in a handset. CONSTITUTION: Activating a switch(104) by a handset(100) where the switch(104) is manually activated when the user wishes to answer an incoming call. While the switch(104) is in the deactivated state, the handset(100) transmits a multi-frequency tone which is detectable by a sound card(105) to the sound card(105) within a personal computer(106). When the manual switch(104) is activated, the handset(100) ceases to transmit the multi-frequency tone to the sound card(105). The sound card(105) detects the absence of the multi-frequency tone to determine if the handset(100) is answering a call. In traditional telephony terms, when the manual switch(104) is activated, this is the off-hook condition. When the manual switch(104) is deactivated, this is the on-hook condition. When the user is done with the call and deactivates the manual switch(104), the handset(100) again generates the multi-frequency tone that is subsequently detected by the software via the sound card(105). Then, the software knows to signal the other party on the call that the call has been terminated.
