The invention relates to a correspondence analysis method for providing data for ascertaining the location and direction of locally periodic structures in an analysis area (A), particularly of fibres in a textured fibre material. In this case, the analysis area (A) is illuminated and is captured by means of an optical recorder (K1, K2), wherein the illumination (L) is diffuse and wherein the analysis area (A) is captured at a first angle with respect to the diffuse illumination (L), with first pixel-based intensity data from the analysis area (A) being made available. In addition, the analysis area (A) is captured at a second angle, with second pixel-based intensity data from the analysis area (A) being made available, the first angle and the second angle being different in three-dimensional space with reference to the diffuse illumination (L). The first intensity data and the second intensity data are used to ascertain intensity correlations. The first and second intensity data are used to ascertain at least one further correlation, selected from an orientation correlation and/or coherency correlation, with the further correlation being determined by means of a structure tensor from the first intensity data and the second intensity data.
