- The vehicle wheel has a one piece rim with radially inward stretching run flanges (7) behind which the beaded edges of the tyre carcass are fixed. Between the raised side beds (9) of the rim is a central deep bed (8) in which is fitted an emergency running ring (10) made of hard rubber in an endless extruded profile on each side of which is a beading (11) which locates in grooves (12) in the walls of the deep central bed. The upper running surface (16) can be flat or convex. The under side of the ring sits on a slide-ring (17) in the form of a teflon collar. USE/ADVANTAGE - Vehicle and tyre assembly includes inexpensive emergency running ring which is easy to produce and can be used over long distances.
