Device for surgical fixation of the vertebrae on a metal frame by means of "movable steps" which can slide on the frame. Device consisting of a U-shaped metal frame, on the uprights (1) of which "movable steps" (MS) slide, the latter being characterised by a dumbbell shape with a central bar (2), and two lateral balls (3) pierced with through-holes (4) permitting the passage of the uprights of the frame; a locking screw (6) penetrates into each ball (5) in order to hold the upright of the frame tight. This "movable step" permits vertebral fixation by means of sublaminar wires. A second embodiment of the "movable step" (MST) is characterised by adding, to the two ends of the above model, lateral "tabs" (7) which are equipped with oblong holes (8), the orientations of which permit the aiming and the positioning of pedicular screws which fix the vertebra. This device is intended to align, reduce, by compression or distraction, and fix the spine. <IMAGE>
