PURPOSE:To simplify battery structure and provide excellent life performance by providing an exhaust chamber on a battery jar lid, said exhaust chamber having an exhaust valve on the upper part and a porous plate on the lower part, and providing the lower end of the porous plate close to the upper end of an electrode plate group. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode plate 1 in which a positive electrode paste is charged in a grid consisting of an antimonyfree lead alloy or a lead alloy containing a small amount of antimony, a negative electrode plate 2 in which a negative electrode paste to which a shrink-proof agent such as lignin or barium sulfate is added is charged in a grid using the antimony-free lead alloy, and a separator 3 are laminated to form an electrode plate group, which is then inserted to a battery jar 4. After conducting cell-to-cell connection by use of a cell-to-cell connecting part 5 and an electrode pole 6, an exhaust chamber 8 and a battery jar lid 7 having a charging hole 9 for powder are welded to the battery jar 4. An exhaust plug 12 provided with an exhaust valve 11 is installed to the upper part of the chamber 8, and a permeable porous plate 13 is mounted on the lower part thereof to prevent the formation of a cavity in a powder layer.
