- PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel compound that is useful in the selective inhibition of angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) or the double inhibition of ACE and neutral endopeptidase(NEP). SOLUTION: This novel compound is represented by formula I [Y<1> and Y<2> are each H, an alkyl, an aryl; X is O, S(O)t ; A is formula II (R<5a> and R<5b> are each H, an alkyl or they link to form a carbon ring; R<7> is H; r is 0, 1); R is H, an alkyl, m, n are each 0, 1; t is 0-2] and its salt, typically [4 S-[4α(R*),7α,12αβ]]-4-[[2-(acetylthio)-1-oxo-3-phenylpropyl]amino-2,3,4,5,8,12b- hexahydro-5-oxo-7-[1,3]-thiazepino[2,3-a]isoquinoline-7-carboxylic methyl ester. The compound of formula I is prepared by coupling reaction of an amino compound of formula III with a compound of the formula: A'-L (A' is same as A, one or more protected groups in A.
