<p>Amyloid aggregation in animals is inhibited by administering a naphthylazo compound of formula (I), wherein R?1 and R2¿ are hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, or complete a heterocyclic ring, R3 is hydrogen or alkyl, R?4, R5, R6, and R7¿ are substituent groups. The compounds are especially useful and preventing and treating Alzheimer's disease.</p>
