The reflector of a lamp has the inner surface facing the bulb rippled to give peaks and troughs, like a wave. This extends from the hole (3) where the bulb is inserted all the way to the mouth (9) where the light emerges. The waves are unequal, that is, the wave lengths and the wave amplitudes can vary around the reflector surface. The amplitude is in the millimetre region or less. The surface is highly reflecting.
