PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer printer without generation of density irregularity. SOLUTION: A thermal head 4 is provided with a plurality of heater elements in a row in the main scanning direction. In the case printing data including color gradation data, and image size data are transferred and inputted from a host computer (not shown), a control device 5 controls the heater elements based on the printing data. A platen roller 6 contacts a recording paper 30 and an ink ribbon 20 with pressure. Ribbon rollers 7A, 7B are rotated according to the command from the host computer (not shown) so as to move the ink ribbon 20. A feed roller 8 is rotated according to the command from the host computer (not shown) so as to move the recording paper 30. A driven roller 9 is rotated according to the command from the host computer (not shown) so as to discharge the recording paper 30.
