- PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid operational interruption of a recorder due to erroneous decision occurring sporadically in the operation for detecting the quantity of ink being supplied to a subtank. SOLUTION: Ink is supplied from an ink cartridge 9 to a subtank 7 carried on a carriage through an ink supply tube 10. The subtank 7 is provided with a float member 31 fixed with a permanent magnet 32, and means for detecting the quantity of ink comprising Hall elements 33a and 33b. When the detecting means detects an overflow state of ink exceeding a specified level, the quantity of ink is reverified following to execution of recovery processing for suction discharging ink from a recording head 6. If the results of reverification represent elimination of overflow state, printable state is sustained.
