PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bed working as a couch as well wherein the altering work from the couch to the bed, or from the bed to the couch is easy, and the state of the couch can be surely maintained as long as a lock releasing operation is not performed. SOLUTION: A backrest part 4 has an automatic locking mechanism 14b by which the standing state of the backrest part 4 is maintained in such a manner that locking is automatically applied when the backrest part 4 is transferred to the standing state. The backrest part 4 is constituted in such a manner that only when the automatic locking mechanism 14b performs a lock releasing operation by an operation part, the backrest part 4 can be transferred to the horizontal state by being released from the standing state.
