- <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for extracting a region of interest from the image of a tongue, and a method for monitoring health using the image of the tongue and an apparatus therefor. <P>SOLUTION: The method for monitoring health using the image of the tongue comprises a step (a) for constructing a database to which the discrimination result of a health state to the image of the tongue taken by individual, the image of a template and at least one characteristic element is allowed to correspond, a step (b) for extracting the region of interest utilizing the template alignment at a tongue region divided from the image of the tongue of an individual, a step (c) for detecting at least one characteristic element with respect to the region of interest extracted in the step (b) and a step (d) for judging the health state of the individual from the state change of the tongue pursued from the characteristic element detected in the step (c) and the characteristic element of the region of interest by the health state searched from the database. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
