In a multiple drop box loom, entanglement of the weft threads is prevented by, raising them out of the path of the shuttles by lifting wires 10-2 raised in dependence on the box position. Each thread, expect the bottom thread 45 is lifted by a wire controlled from cams 28-30 via linkage shown. Vertical movement of the box 1 rotates the cam shaft by means diagramatically shown as cable 33. In an alternative embodiment (fig. 3 not shown) the cable passes over pulley on the shaft 31 and a pulley (50) on a lever (46) controlling the position of the box. The linkage is replaced by wires (71-3) raised and lowered by cam follower levers (24-6).
