PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle travel controller capable of performing automatic deceleration control while securing travelling performance. SOLUTION: The vehicle travel controller includes a travel speed detecting means for detecting a vehicle's travel speed; an object sensing means for sensing any objects present in the forward direction of the vehicle; a travel control means for performing vehicle travel control based on outputs from those means; a deceleration control means for performing deceleration control of the vehicle based on outputs from the travel control means; and a braking means for decelerating the vehicle based on outputs from the deceleration control means. The vehicle has a manual transmission means for transmitting outputs from its internal combustion engine to driving wheels and an engine speed detecting means for detecting the speed of the internal combustion engine. When the speed of the internal combustion engine detected by the engine speed detecting means is not higher than a predetermined engine speed below which the internal combustion engine is difficult to operate, the travel control means changes the content of the deceleration control by the deceleration control means.
