- <p>The injector (1) has a pintle (9) that opens and/or closes an injection nozzle cross section (10). A fuel is supplied to a combustion chamber through the cross section. The pintle has a prestroke (11.1) and a stroke (12.1), where the cross section is opened and/or closed by the pintle by an actuator such as a 2/2 way valve (5). Pressure chambers (13.1, 13.2) are formed above and below the pintle, where the fuel under pressure is supplied to the chambers. A pressure inlet cross section (8) is larger than a pressure outlet cross section (7) in the pressure chamber (13.1).</p>
