- PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing ethanol and diesel fuel derived from a plant. SOLUTION: This method for producing ethanol is characterized by using an extract (preferably, hot water extract) of the tree trunks of oil palm (preferably, a part situated 5 to 12 m part above ground of adult trees) as a raw material for fermentation. Also, the method for producing the diesel fuel uses the extract of the tree trunks of the oil palm (preferably, a part situated 0 to 5 m part above ground of adult trees).
