- PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make stabilized recording in the alternative recording area on a multilayered recordable optical disk. SOLUTION: When making alternative processing on a multilayered recordable optical disk, an alternative recording area is used sequentially from the layer closest to the objective lens, irrespective of the layer to make alternative processing. Alternatively, the alternative recording area is set up only in the layer closest to the objective lens, or a priority alternative recording area is arranged for executing an alternation with a higher priority by shifting the radial position from the other layer. Alternatively, arrangement is performed so that the alternative position or the alternative recording start radial position of the alternative recording area of each layer is not superposed on the upper or the lower layer alternative recording area.
