<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety confirmation system, capable of determining presence or absence of a person in a house using security mode information set in a monitoring device before a principal shock reaches to display the presence or absence to the outdoors. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The system includes the monitoring device provided at a monitoring target facility and a display device connected to the monitoring device. The monitoring device includes a receiving unit for receiving earthquake information via a communication network; a storage unit storing, as operation modes, an uninhabited mode that is set when the monitoring target facility is uninhabited and an inhabited mode that is set, when the monitoring target facility is inhabited; and a controller that determines necessity of the safety confirmation, on the basis of the operation mode stored in the storage unit and outputs the determined result to the display device, responsive to reception of the earthquake information by the receiving unit. The display device includes a display unit for displaying the need for the safety confirmation in the monitoring target facility, on the basis of the output from the monitoring device.
