<p>An automotive exhaust system has a catalytic converter with a cylindrical inlet to a housing with a rectangular cross section as seen end-on. The housing contains a petal-format catalytic substrate. Each petal is sub-divided into chambers (23) with cascading gas outlets (34) discharging in line with the main gas flow axis (39). - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for the production of the above catalytic converter in which the catalytic substrate is formed from a single die-cut and folded metal panel with sidewalls. The sidewalls interlock with the mantle.</p>
