Ž<P>SOLUTION: A terminal 14 stops IO firmware 62 for driving an IO co-processor 5B in a Standby mode to update the IO firmware 62, and after switching the system, stops IO firmware 60 for driving an IO co-processor 5A in the Standby mode to update the IO firmware 60. Thus, it is possible to update the IO firmware 60 and 62 by online, and it is not necessary to stop or remove CPU modules 1A and 1B. Therefore, it is not necessary to perform any APDC processing to copy IO image data or the like, and to shorten the time of such a risky one side operation state that the CPU modules 1A and 1B are independently operated without being duplexed.
