PURPOSE:To provide the titled improver capable of imparting an excellent low-temp. flowability to a wide variety of a fuel oils, which comprises an ester amide or an ester amide amine derived from a specific alpha-olefin/maleic acid anhydride copolymer. CONSTITUTION:A flowability improver for a fuel oil comprising an ester amide or an ester amide amine salt derived from a copolymer of an alpha-olefin with maleic acid anhydride and having a number-average molecular weight of 2-50, an alcohol of the formula R1OH and an amine of the formula NH(R2)(R3) and containing a structural unit (1) of the formula I and a structural unit (2) of the formula II in such an amount as will provide a (1)/(2) ratio of 0.1-1. In the formulae, R1 is a R3 are each independently a 12-24C straight-chain saturat ed hydrocarbon residue; one of the substituents X1 and X2 is -OR1 and the other is -OH[NH(R2)(R2)]j, wherein j is o or 1; and one of the substituents Y1 and Y2 is -N(R2)(R2) and the other is -OH[NH(R2)(R2)]j.
