- PURPOSE: A composite containing anthraquinone is provided to ensure selective growth suppression and prevent harmful algae. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing harmful algae contains two or more kinds of anthraquinone compounds of the chemical formula 1. In the chemical formula 1, R1 is H, R2 is H, OH or OCH3, and R3 is CH3, COOH or CH2OH. The anthraquinone compound is chrysphanol(1,8-dihydroxy-6-methylanthraquinone), emodin(1,3,8-trihydroxy-6-methylanthraquinone), rhein(1,8-dihydroxy-6-carboxyanthraquinone), physcion(1,8-dihydroxy-3-methoxy-6-methylanthraquinone), and aloe-emodin(1,8-dihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)anthraquinone).
