PURPOSE: To provide an invention which becomes a reference for selecting the optimum combination in the combination of a current (polarity and current value) which is impressed before impressing a transfer bias by which an effect of preventing the back stain on a leading end is extremely influenced. CONSTITUTION: As for the image forming device provided with an image carrier 1 for electrostatically carrying a toner image, a transfer member 5 for impressing the transfer bias on the surface of the image carrier 1 abutting against the carrier 1, a bias impressing means 20 for impressing the transfer bias on the transfer member 5 when the transfer paper P passes between the image carrier 1 and the transfer member 5 so as to transfer the toner image formed on the surface of the image carrier 1 to the transfer paper P and also for making a current having a polarity opposite to the charged polarity of the toner flow in the transfer member 5 after making a current having the same polarity as the charged polarity of the toner flow in the transfer member 5 at the time of cleaning in a state where the transfer material does not exist at a transfer position, at least; the bias having the same polarity as that of the transfer bias is impressed on the transfer member 5 from when the first image starts to be formed just after the end of cleaning until the transfer bias is impressed.
